The Poetry Day festival is in its 9th year and is celebrating poetry for two weeks around the anniversary of the birthday of the Czech poet, K.H. Macha on 16.11. Schools, libraries, universities and literary groups and invididuals will be organising events in over forty towns throughout the republic from 5 – 23rd November. The Společnost poezie (Poetry Society) co-ordinates and publicises all these events, as well as organising its own readings and activities.
In Prague, in addition to a number of readings featuring such poets as J.H.Krchovský, Petr Král, Alexandra Berková, Svatava Antošová, Zbyněk Hejda and many others, Společnost poezie, in co-operation with Literature Across Frontiers, has this year organised the Prague International Poetry Days, involving readings by over twenty-five poets from fifteen countries. We are also linking again with the Multicultural Centre in Prague with a Literary marathon (on 11.11.) as part of their annual Dialogue of Cultures festival.
There are a number of events of interest to English speakers, for example the launch of a new anthology of six contemporary Czech poets in English translation on 14.11. And all of the International Poetry Day events will offer English translation.
We hope you will find some events and readings to interest you this year and can find the time to join in the celebrations!.
Sincerely,
Společnost poezie
